About Tiger Lights in Koreatown Toronto
Since December 2004, the Korea Town BIA has displayed Tiger lights symbolizing the white tiger, a sacred animal from the Goguryeo mural Sasindo, guardian of the western sky where Koreatown is located, in the park in front of Christie Subway Station during the holiday season from November to February of the following year to pray for the prosperity and well-being of Koreatown, and now displays them year-round.
The four deities in the Goguryeo mural Sasindo are Jujak(a symbol of the god in charge of the south), Hyunmoo(a symbol of the god in charge of the north), Chungryong(a symbol of the god in charge of the east), and Baekho(a symbol of the god in charge of the west), symbolic animals that represented the orientation of East, West, and North and promoted cosmic order.

코리아타운 BIA는 2004년 12월부터 코리아타운의 번영(繁榮)과 안녕(安寧)을 기원하며 고구려 벽화 사신도에 나오는 성스러운 동물인 사신(四神)증 코리아타운이 위치한 서쪽 하늘을 지키는 수호신인 백호(白虎)를 상징하는 호랑이등불을 Holiday 시즌 기간인 11월에서부터 다음 해 2월까지 Christie 전철역 앞 공원에 설치를 해오다가 현재는 1년 내내 전시하고 있다.
고구려 벽화 사신도에 나오는 사신(四神)으로는 주작(朱雀: 남쪽을 지키는 신), 현무(玄武): 북쪽을 지키는 신), 청룡(靑龍: 동쪽을 지키는 신을 상징), 백호(白虎: 서쪽을 지키는 신)로, 동서남북의 방위를 나타내고 우주의 질서를 진호하는 상징적인 동물이다.
